Neudorf Chardonnay 2014
A mouth-filling textural wine with brioche, slight toffee and cooked peach characters in the mid palate with bright mandarin-like citrus tones in the finish. Firm mineral acidity balances the rich texture beautifully. This is absolute classic Neudorf Chardonnay. If you are familiar with the characters delivered by Moutere Clay soils then you will recognise them in this wine.
In previous vintages this wine was labelled 'Neudorf Nelson Chardonnay'. The Nelson has been dropped but teh winemaking is the same as previous versions. The premium Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay will be released later in the year.
Winery notes: Made from 100% Mendoza Clone Chardonnay grown on the Neudorf Home Block (Moutere) Neudorf Rosie's Block (Moutere) and small parcels from other Moutere clay sites. A moderate winter followed by a warm spring and dry summer produced one of the earliest vintages on record. Fruit was harvested under excellent conditions and we see wines with great textural character and poise.
The grapes were harvested between the 20th March and 10th April 2014, 100% whole bunch pressed, fermented with 100% indigenous yeast with a high solid fermentation. Fermented 100% oak barrels (16% new French Barriques with a medium toast) and matured for ten months on full lees with monthly battonage until completion of malo. The secondary malolactic fermentation was with 100% indigenous yeast. Bottled 10th & 11th March 2015 with no fining and coarse filtration. 2383 cases bottled.
