Blackenbrook Pinot Gris 2020

The rich pear flavours are balanced with nice spicy phenolics and delightful acidity. The balance between intense fruit characters, juicy acid and the dry finish is a tightrope walked with precision. This wine is drinking very well right now and is a perfect food wine. I think this wine also shows how New Zeland can develop it's own style of Pinot Gris production, much in the way it did with Sauvignon Blanc 30 years ago. The almost sweet fruit characters the variety delivers in New Zealand conditions are balanced with some nice ripe acidity, something that is becoming a trademark of quality Pinot Gris in this country.

As you would expect this smells quite different to the Pinot Blanc, aromas of soft pear are delicate on the nose but rich on the palate.
